Jenny is a student of Literature and daughter of Cosmas Skoutaris, a leader politician of the island who often visits the private library of the ship owner Miltos Kassandris, who is her father’s main political opponent. Kassandris persuades his nephew Nikos Mantas to run for the parliamentary elections. He is a friend of Jenny’s, from her childhood, but she hasn’t seen him for long, since he was studying abroad. Nikos is secretly married to Yvonne and after the couple’s arrival to the island, his wife has to stay at a hotel, until Nikos would find a way to tell his uncle about his marriage. Kassandris, realizing that his nephew is going to lose the elections, decides to marry him to Jenny in order to get rid of his opponent’s threat. In return, Kassandris will pay the debts of Jenny’s father.
